Gold coated welding lenses also known
as gold mirror lenses have been available for a number of years.
A standard welding filter lenses is
coated with a thin layer of gold which the manufacturers claim reflects 90% of the
welding heat compared to only 4% with
a standard lens.
A second claim for the lenses is that
they allow you to see the weld in it's true colours.
A third advantage is that they look
really good !
Gold lenses are available from the UKWelder Shop in 2 sizes 52 x 108 mm and 90 x 110 mm and in a variety of filter shades. - Why not give one a try ?

"I've been using them for about a year
now and i think they are far better than the standard lens. i feel
that i can wear a higher filter because of the light from
the arc is
reflected back onto the job from the gold film on the lens but when
you are welding you need to protect the gold lens so it is not
damaged." wee_dobber
"The gold lens is a fixed shade lens with a gold coating on the front not a cover lens they are superb but of no use to you if you use an auto screen." den the welder
"With the mirrored surface, they also
reflect light back, which can make it easier to see. I use them all the time....mig, tig, whatever I weld it's done with
the
gold lenses." Engloid
"Dont know about reflecting heat back,
I haven't managed to boil my eyeballs with normal lenses. weird seeing stuff the right colour, but
comfortable on eyes" monkee
"They reflect more heat and allow you
to see the weld in it's 'true' colours. I for one swear by
them"
