just been looking at the jobs in this site. and was wondering what back gouge. please dont jump down my throat for asking this.

back gouge is when you have welded say a single bevel v butt on plate you turn the plate over where the root has come through and either air arc grind gouge it out in effect gouging into the weld.
then reweld

cheers webbo. what are the benifits of doing this. i assume it can only make the butt stronger

It removes any potential flaws that may have been laid down when you put your root in.

Arc Air gouge or back gouge is something you
definately want to keep away from, when you see it being done
you'll see why.

wear muffs you need a quality air fed mask
good quality leathers spats over ya boots
the noise the fumes the sparks dont ever do this
without proper safety equipment
