HELLO GUYS,
[WELDER QUALIFICATION]
I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING THE THICKNESS QUALIFICATION RANGE AND DIAMETER QUALIFICATION RANGE FOR THE FOLLOWING
2 INCH SCHEDULE 10 STAINLESS
2 INCH SHEDULE 40 CARBON
8 INCH SCHEDULE 40 CARBON
ALL TO ASME 1X CODE
I DO NOT HAVE THE ASME CODED AT HAND . COMPANY HAS ORDERD CODES,(SO THEY TELL ME)

I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CURRENT WELDER QUALS AS THE THICKNESS QUALIFICATION RANGES AND DIAMETER QUALIFICATIONS SEEM TO INCORRECT . ITS SEEMS AS THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF THE QUALIFICATION RANGES OF THE PQR, THE MATERIAL THICKNESS AND PIPE SIZES ON THE PQR
ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE WQR.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THE QUALIFICATION RANGES ARE.
I AM SURE THE THICKNESS RANGE WOULD BE 1.5MM - 2 TIMES THICKNESS.
does anyone out there have a copy of the code

pinhole,
For thicknesses quoted it will be 2 x "T" maximum. (there is no minimum for welder quals)
For Diameter
2" coupon = greater than or equal to 25.4 mm OD
8" coupon = greater than or equal to 73 mm OD
Cheers,

THANKS BB.
I GOT HOLD OF AN AS3992 CODE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE AS3992 AND ASME 1X ARE THE SAME...THAT IS FOR WELDER QUALIFICATIONS AND PROCEDURE QUALIFICATION..AMSME B31.3 AND AS 4041 AS 4037 ARE THE SAME...........

HOW TRUE IS THIS?
AS3392 IS THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION OF ASME 1X

Hello Pinhole

"AS3392 IS THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION OF ASME 1X"

This is kind of true in that they cover similar roles but the detail of the codes is different. For example they both cover testing out WPS and welder quals but the testing requirements and variable are different.

What job are you working on, and to what code? Is this a job in Perth? The reason I'm asking this is that I'm reviewing WPS for some jobs in Perth at the moment and I'm getting ASME wps back for review when they should be AS 3992.

Keel,

I am no longer at the job in Perth.. I am in South Australia in a workshop at the moment.

The code we were working was asme 1x / asme b31.3 Category M fluids.
The company did not have the ame 1x or b31.3 sections of the code.

They did have AS3992 , 4037 , 4041.

They needed a CWI on the job but were not interested in rectifying any concerns..
They had two a mechanical supervisor doing the inspection before i got there.
Traceability, weld register all associated paperwork was in a mess...
