We have welded a stainless steel baring plate to a stainless steel beam with a 12 mm fillet weld only now the client has decided that the gap between the baring plate was too large and we need to remove the fillet weld.
Is it OK to air arc/gouge the weld? we have tried gouging a fillet weld it on a scrap plate and there is no problem in actualy removing the weld but wouldn't this only add carbon into the stainless steel material.

If you grind back to remove all carbon deposits after gouging then it will be ok.

Its fine just grind out any carbon. The metal comes off easy(the carbon dosnt),and ask (they may be a restriction on it)B.N.F.L dont like it.you dont want the bill for a new one.
