Hi Everyone

I have just started new job and they have got me testing out with Innershield for an up and coming tank job. I am really struggling as i have never used it before. These are the consumables and parameters as i have been given

Lincoln NR702 2mm innershield wire
20mm stick out
volts 19
Wire speed is 75- 90 inch / M (sorry this is NZ)
Amps is reading around 210 - 240

The material is 8mm carbon plate with a square edge prep, root gap is 3mm. I have two plates to do, A vertical down and a hori. I have managed to do the vert without too many problems but the hori is driving me mad. They want it rooted and capped in one run with minimal back gouge and a sealing run. I have been using the same settings for both positions. I have managed to do what they ask but i feel its getting far too hot (undercut on top edge, black discoloring of the weld and the need for asbestos gloves) or i go in with a colder setting and theres practically no penetration.

Before you ask me to ask someone else in the workshop I don't think anyone really has an idea how to use it properly and i don't wanna look like a complete idiot in my first week.

I think the idiot is the one asking you to perform this particular weld.

As far as Im aware there isnt an NR702, there is a 207 which is for pipe welding. You should speak to your local Lincoln Rep.

Al

It is NR207 my mistake... and it does say on the wall chart that it is for stoving pipe lines..
