I've been issued an ffp3 face mask but have failed the face fit test and have not been issued any adequate PPE for over 6 months. just wanted to know can I be disciplined for refusing to weld? cheers lads

Might be wrong as not in the Uk but I thought RPE was now manditory PPE for Welders.....

welding fumes have now been classed as carcinogenic--ie--likely ,or has the potential to cause cancer. your company should be providing you with the ppe required to prevent harm . have a look here http://www.hse.gov.uk/welding/illness.htm. even show this to your company.

@Aerowelder96 - what you describe is completely illegal nonsense. "Failed a Face fit test"??? Familiar error - they are taking it the most specific clause has precedence. Legally nonsense. The most general higher requirement of the Law - the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - has dominating precedence over Regulations, guidelines, suggested practices.
Obviously you are in a difficult position that your employers are deluding themselves and they are not likely to be happy to be told that.
So, the law as I understand it - if you need a piece of equipment, it is their obligation to find equipment which is suitable.

LEV before PPE - simple as that.
The employer must provide suitable Local Extraction before relying on dishing out dust masks to their employees.
