Auto darkening helmet re-brightens ? Options

Hi all. I'm new to welding. I have a question: I bought an auto darkening helmet but I'm not sure it's working. It darkens Ok when I push the test button. It darkens Ok if I shine a powerful torch straight at it BUT it lightens again automatically after a second or two even though the torch is STILL shining at it. Is this normal ? Will it do this when I am actually using it ? How does it protect your eyes if it does this ?? (Apologies if this has already been answered; I did search for this topic but could not find anyone already asking it).

Try farting around with the sensitivity and delay settings,if it has them.
