Hi could some one please help with the question on Trade Name of Electrode on Weld Procedures at the moment we are using Lincoln E7018-G Electrodes on the weld procedures can we change to a different Brand or Trade Name as been informed that the Brand or Trade Name that is on your Weld Procedure must be used could some one please advise me on this thanks by the way Code is BS EN ISO15614-1/ASME.IX

Dont know about the paperwork side of it but technically it could be a problem. E7018-G is a bucket spec for any low alloy steel that doesnt fit into another more specific group. It could contain Ni, or Mo, or just higher Mn that the spec allows..or some other alloying additions. Depending on what its alloyed with, and how much, the properties can be very different.

So changing the rod, if the spec allows it, is taking a chance....in this instance
