> Qualifying 150 mm thick material

Hi all,

Per ISO 15614-1: I need to qualify 139.7 mm thick material using a single V butt weld. Does the standard allow me to just deposit 25.4 mm of filler for qualification or do I have to fill the entire groove?

15614:2008 page 23 table 5.
Thickness of test piece between 12-100mm gives you an ROA 0.5-2t, so to qualify a 140mm PQR ,you'd need to use a 70mm t test coupon as far as I can tell. Also, how would you do the mechanicals on a 70 t coupon, filled out to 25mm? A lot of machining involved I'd imagine? Which standard do you want to satisfy with the PQR? DNV,EEMUA,CODRES etc etc ? Be careful as there are likely to be impact and CTOD requirements at this thickness.........
