Hi Guys sorry if this has already been discussed on many occasions, I have been welding for 9 years and have recently opened my own workshop and doing work on evenings / weekends (looking to go full time when work load pics up) I was wondering if you could tell me how much an hour a welder uses in electric if welding at say 250 amps . I am pricing a job for a friend which I think is about 30 hours of flat out welding and I just want to double check my rates are not to high but also not to low. Thanks

You need to give more info.. Process?? What type of power source??

A lot less than you think though. I doubt VERY much that you would get through £20 worth..

A 13 (or 16) amp socket can only deliver 45p worth of electricity per hour. (assuming 15p per KWh).

I often monitor meter readings in our shop and keep notes of them and can tell you that our single phase tig welder running approx 150A on a 16A supply would use 4kw hrs over 2 hours. At that time we were on 12.5/kWh so 50p.

We were surprised at how little power they actually consumed.

I think if you based it on imagedudeís 3kwh youíll not be far away.
