For many years I have had in my garage an ark welder and a set of full size oxy/ace bottles. The gas in the bottles has finally run out and it is over 15 years since the last refill.

I am now in a fix as I do not know whether to obtain more gas or go for a tig welder.

The ark welder I can use down to 3 mm plate without to much trouble but anything below that I use gas.

What I cannot quite work out after watching or reading various sites etc is Tig welding an electric version of gas welding for thin materials and can you braze or bronze weld with tig like you can with gas. Could I use use my existing the gas filler rods.

Any advice would be most gratefully received.

yes you can use tig for a lot of applications. it is similar in general terms with gas welding, You only need one gas (argon pure)

regarding your existing filler rods you would need too have a chat with the welding supplier or welding engineer, (my guess is you can not as their are different properties in the rod)
