panther 306 Options

Hi new to this site and was hoping someone may be able to help me. my Panther 306 which is probably 20 years old but has been a very reliable welder/genset stopped running the other day ,it will start easily but after returning to idle will shut down have gone through the basics oil ,water ,fuel and am happy I don't have a problem there. I don't seem to have a charge off the engine alternator which was only replaced a couple of months ago and was wondering if there was anything else in the electric's that might be causing the forced shutdown and how I might go about testing it? Also anyone know of any fitters around the SW London Area.
